About

Christopher Metsgar is the director of the EMSLRC at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics. Metsgar joined the EMSLRC with over 10 years of EMS education leadership. His experience and interests include curriculum design and program leadership. He began his EMS career as a volunteer in rural West Texas and has practiced as both a paid and volunteer provider. Metsgar completed his paramedic education at Texas Tech University Health Science Center (TTUHSC), School of Allied Health.

He is a national registered paramedic, certified EMS Educator, CoAEMSP Site Visitor, Iowa EMS Advisory Committee member, and Chairperson of the Iowa EMS Education Programs. He joined UI Hospitals & Clinics in June 2014 after serving as the EMS Education Program Manager for HealthONE EMS in Denver, Colorado.

He was recognized as a Distinguished Alumni in 2008 by TTUHSC for creating and teaching the first online college credit EMT-intermediate Course in Texas. Additionally, he was inducted into the School of Allied Health Alumni Hall of Fame in 2008 for recognition of his progressive educational delivery methods and establishing an articulation agreement between the South Plains College Department of Allied Health and TTUHSC.

Metsgar is a member of the National Association of EMTs, National Association of EMS Educators, and Iowa EMS Association.

He strives for excellence in education and looks forward to providing excellent EMS education in innovative ways to the providers in Iowa.
