Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Education Program
Â

The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Education Program is conducted on campus during the fall and spring semesters, meeting one, eight-hour day each week. The EMT program meets from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays. The EMT program is a hybrid course where the lecture materials are delivered online. As readings and traditional lecture materials are provided online, this program will require a considerable independent study commitment from the student.
EMT Academy
Three, eight-week EMT academy-style classes are held during the summer term.
Program Overview
The course consists of online course delivery and 120 hours of classroom and skills lab time that includes skills instructions, scenarios, and simulations. The student must schedule outside of class time one in-hospital emergency department rotation and two EMS rotations where they will observe and assist with the assessment and management patients.
This course provides the basic knowledge and skills necessary for individuals to obtain certification from the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) which will lead to Iowa certification as an EMT.
