Congenital and Traumatic Breast Deformities

A certain amount of breast asymmetry is normal in women. However, some women develop extreme degrees of asymmetry creating difficulty in wearing normal clothing, as well as embarrassment. Though it is difficult to create perfect breast symmetry for such women, the degree of asymmetry can often be substantially improved. This may involve augmentation procedures, reduction procedures or even reconstructive procedures, depending on the nature of the specific patient’s problem and their personal preferences.

Some injuries, such as burns, can substantially impair normal breast development. The impairment can result from damage to the bud of tissue that normally develops into a breast or from scarring that prevents the breast from enlarging normally during adolescence. A variety of surgical procedures are available to help correct these problems. A personalized plan will be developed for each individual patient during aconsultation.
