Walk-in Mammograms Available in October

UI Health Care Offers Walk-in Mammography Every Weekday in October

Mammography with no appointmentGetting a mammogram continues to be the best way to screen for breast cancer.

In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, University of Iowa Health Care offers walk-in appointments for screening mammography during October.

The walk-in screenings are available from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, October 1 through October 31 at two locations.

Patients are responsible for fees not covered by insurance.

“Regular mammography exams are important for women 40 and older,” says Leonel Vasquez, MD, clinical associate professor of radiology and vice chair for operations of UI Health Care’s Division of Breast Imaging. “Early detection of breast cancer continues to be our first and best defense against this disease.”

Mammography options at UI Health Care imaging centers feature the best technology available for detecting cancerous and precancerous lesions in breast tissue, including 3D mammography that creates images of breast tissue in thin layers with fine detail.

A 3D mammogram and a standard mammogram are captured at the same time to keep X-ray exposure to an absolute minimum.

Screening breast ultrasound imaging is also available for patients with dense breasts and higher risk.
