Urinary Incontinence Clinic

Conditions and Symptoms Treated

The Continence Center sees patients with conditions or symptoms that include:

  • Mixed incontinence
    • More than one type of incontinence at different times
  • Overactive Bladder
    • Feeling a sudden need to urinate
  • Stress incontinence
    • Bladder leaks while laughing, coughing, or during physical activity
  • Urge incontinence
    • Feeling a sudden need to urinate, whether the bladder is full or not, and not being able to make it to the bathroom before urine leaks

Additional Bladder Problems

Experts in the center also evaluate and treat many other bladder problems, including:

  • Interstitial cystitis
  • Neurogenic bladder (which occurs when the nerve signals to the bladder are compromised)
  • Painful urination
  • Recurrent urinary tract infections

While most bladder symptoms may be treated relatively simply with medication, biofeedback training, or change in lifestyle, surgery is sometimes needed.

In these cases, the center's urologic reconstructive surgeons work carefully with each patient to determine the best procedure.
