Cancer Treatment Options at Mission Cancer + Blood

With decades of experience and access to leading-edge cancer treatments, your care is guided by proven expertise you can trust.

There are several types of cancer treatment. The treatment you receive depends on the type of cancer you have and how advanced it is. Some patients receive one type of treatment, while others may need a combination of therapies.

Many treatments, such as chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and theranostics, are provided by your physician and care team at Mission Cancer + Blood. Other treatments are coordinated with hospitals and health care systems in Central Iowa.

You also have access to advanced and highly specialized treatments, such as CAR T‑cell therapy through UI Health Care. Your care teams communicate closely to ensure your treatment plan is aligned and seamless, no matter where you receive care. With so many treatment options, and the precision required to treat your specific cancer, you can take comfort in an approach that’s tailored to you.

Our team will guide you through each stage of treatment, explaining the goals and how progress is measured along the way. Your doctors, nurses, and therapists are here to answer your questions and help you prepare for every step of the process.

Learn more about cancer treatments:

CAR T-cell therapy
University of Iowa Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center is the first and only provider in Iowa to offer CAR T-cell therapy, an advanced treatment that uses your own immune system to fight cancer.
Cancer Surgery
Surgery may be part of your treatment at different stages of your cancer care. It may be used for diagnosis, staging, removal, or restoration.
Chemotherapy
Our experts in the prescribing, compounding, and administering of chemotherapy drugs make sure each dose is delivered safely and effectively.
Radiation
Radiation therapy helps fight cancer by causing enough damage to the DNA of cancer cells to kill them or stop them from dividing.
Immunotherapy
Cancer immunotherapy is an exciting and relatively new approach to cancer treatment that directs a patient’s immune system to seek out and destroy cancer cells.
Theranostics
If you’ve been told you’re not a good candidate for traditional treatment options, theranostics may be for you.
