Preparing for your first appointment at a Mission Cancer + Blood clinic
Thank you for choosing Mission for your cancer care. We know it was a big decision, and we promise to do our best to assure you that you made the right one. Our goal is to make your visit as easy and stress-free as possible.
What to expect
1-2 days before your first visit
For your first visit, you will receive a reminder call one or two days prior to your appointment. If we are unable to reach you, we will leave a message on your voicemail, if available.
Please try to arrive 30 minutes early for your first visit to complete the required check-in process. After your first visit, the check-in process will be much quicker.

They will request a photo ID and your insurance cards (primary, secondary, tertiary, and prescription drug cards). They will also ask to take your photo. Understanding your visit
You will meet your oncologist and your cancer care team, which will remain your core group of caregivers throughout your treatment. The team may include advanced practice providers (APPs), nurses, financial counselors, and your oncologist’s dedicated scheduler. If available, the team will review your previous medical records and possibly consult your physician before your visit.
Your Mission oncologist will help you understand your current medical condition and work with you to design a treatment plan that fits your needs. Your primary Mission care team will be at the center of your treatment plan, often including an oncology nurse, advanced practice provider, and clinical support staff. This team takes the time to get to know you, building meaningful, long-term relationships that help inform personalized care based on your specific diagnosis, medical history, and goals.
Many services are conveniently available during a single visit, including on-site labs, provider consultations, treatments such as chemotherapy infusions, scheduling for follow-ups and testing, and meetings with financial counselors. On-site laboratories allow for timely results so your care team can quickly adjust your treatment as needed, while infusion suites provide safe and efficient administration of therapies prepared on-site. Mission also offers advanced services like theranostics, genetic counseling, tumor boards, and access to clinical trials, ensuring you benefit from the latest innovations in cancer care.
At the end of your visit, you will check out with our scheduling staff. They will take care of coordinating and scheduling any follow-up appointments and anything else the physician may order. If your provider deems it necessary, you may be asked to visit our in-office lab before you leave.
Reminders: After your initial visit, reminders will be sent out two days prior to your next scheduled appointment via your preferred contact method (text message or email) that you select during our registration process.
Insurance cards: We may need to verify your insurance cards at following visits. This allows us to note any changes to insurance benefits. Thank you for your understanding.
