Medicare Counseling

SHIIP (Senior Health Insurance Information Program) is a confidential service through of the State of Iowa offered at no charge. All SHIIP volunteer counselors are trained through the Iowa Insurance Division to provide objective counseling services regarding Medicare supplements and drug plan comparisons.

The SHIIP office is located in Community Relations, level 2, north end of building. 

Senior Health Insurance Information Program SHIIP Counselors
After Volunteers onboarding is completed, an application to the Senior Health Insurance Information Program in Des Moines will be submitted. Required virtual training will be scheduled through SHIIP Des Moines, IA headquarters, as well as on-going training at least 3 times per year. Once training and mentoring has concluded, volunteers will be able to assist seniors with their Medicare drug plan compassions, enrollment, and general insurance questions.
