Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center

Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center is Iowa’s only NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center. The cancer center coordinates all cancer-related research, education and patient care throughout the University of Iowa. The Cancer Center patient facilities are located in the Pomerantz Family Pavilion and bring together physicians and patients into a comfortable atmosphere. A patient advisory group provided insight into the facility to make it more patient-friendly. The clinics are on the main level, Radiation Therapy is on the lower level and the Infusion Suite is on the second level.

Infusion Suite

You will receive chemotherapy infusions in the Infusion Suite. A 12-member patient advisory group provided insight into the development of the clinic to make it more patient-friendly. Some of the suggestions from the group that were implemented include:
- Half of the seating in the waiting areas are made up of loveseats
- Half walls separating the chemotherapy suites to allow patients to talk to each other
- Headsets in the infusion suites for every patient television
- Closed-off family room to provide privacy for families and patients alike
The infusion suite area has 40 chairs in open bays and 8 private rooms. The bays are kept open so patients can visit; curtains can also be pulled to make them private. Most of the bays overlook a healing garden and offer a view of historic Kinnick Stadium. The Infusion Suite is located on the second floor at west end of the Pomerantz Family Pavilion. Each infusion bay has its own TV and headsets to allow for a quieter patient area. The chairs were patient reviewed, and the manufacturer specially designed this chair for comfort and function.
