I've been in hospitals with my grandmother, mom, sister, girlfriend, my dad, many friends and other patients I didn't know or that had no family around. The treatment I watched them experience was 1) I had to step in, 2) I had to share what customer service was to the caregiver!, and 3) I went as far as suggesting "retraining" management. Univ of Iowa hospitals has yet to display any flaws or irregularities in my two visits [Date] Of course, individuals can make or break the reputation of an organization; however, Dr Bender must host that "good morning [Name(s)] rally" to pump his team. This team must have selected the best players, encourage and validate them in their roles so they truly greet patients with the "team" approach, i.e., introducing the next hospital staff, etc. Here is where I want to inject my Anesthesiologist comments: Please tell her. I thought she was the most graceful, desirable personality, evident educational display of knowledge without "tooting a horn" but rather patient confidence builder by sharing her skill, having the patience to explain and showing passion for her role during surgery. This teamwork in itself has impacted my attitude towards hospitals in general.

The ability to build a long-term relationship with Dr. Bender has made a huge difference for me. A place like UIHC tends to be very impersonal and it can be hard to establish and maintain a true continuity of care.
