Jill from Iowa City
"Having a BRCA mutation is very difficult news to learn."

“We have decided to consider this knowledge as a blessing rather than a curse.”
Jill has a family history of cancer. Her mother, a brother, and a grandmother had certain types of cancer—a signal for her gynecologist to recommend genetic testing at Holden.
Genetic testing revealed a gene mutation that left Jill and her children susceptible to developing certain types of cancer, including ovarian cancer. During a follow up screening, a rare tumor was detected and removed at an early stage.
“Our hope and prayer is that others in our family will be able to eliminate or have early detection of hereditary cancers as well.”
