The Family

A quintet of adorable chicks and their proud mother are seated atop a worn tire under a peach moon. This fowl family could also be considered a part of Hemminghaus's own family. He carefully raises free-range chickens on a farm with his brothers and uses live birds in his portraits. The photographer's human family is referenced to with the inclusion of a railroad spike and a biscuit cutter, which stand for his grandparents.
