Two majestic horses, nicknamed “Bones” and “Drift” by patients, guard the entrance to UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital with stalwart equine bravery. Originally designed with careful arrangements of driftwood, these enormous horses are made from heavy cast bronze and can withstand any Iowa weather. The artist used the branches to create three-dimensional horse sketches that allow the sun, Kinnick Stadium, and the hospital to shine through their wood-like lines.

Update: Due to ongoing construction related to the Jacobson Tower at UI Health Care Medical Center University Campus, the sculptures "Midday" and "Indelible" have been temporarily relocated to the southern lawn of the Medical Center North Liberty Campus. This move ensures the safety and conservation of the artworks until they can be returned to the entrance to the UI Stead Family Children's Hospital.
