My daughter was near death and transferred to University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital. UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital helped us through one of the darkest times in our lives as we prepared to say goodbye to our newborn baby girl. Our prayers were answered when she unexpectedly recovered the day we were planning to withdraw life support.
Fast forward three weeks of recovery.
Before we were able to discharge, we got a visit from one of Clara's doctors. He was talking to us about Clara's future care, and said, "It's important to remember that Clara is a normal baby now."
I just couldn't believe it. This is the same girl that only three weeks prior was considered to have a non-functioning brain, heart failure, kidney failure, liver failure, holes in her lungs, and so much more.
Now the doctors are calling her a normal baby.
We're so thankful for the doctors and nurses who helped take care of Clara. I'd like to remind everybody that these doctors and nurses are emotionally vested in your child's care, as well. It's a team effort when hard decisions have to be made. The kind, empathetic, compassionate care we received is why we would choose to go back.
