Orthopedics Inpatient, Trauma and Spine
Unit Description
The Acute Orthopedic Unit is located on 3RCP and consists of 32 beds. This unit was specifically created to provide a supportive team environment for the delivery of safe, high-quality care and to enhance the experience of patients requiring inpatient admission for acute orthopedic needs. Patients on this unit typically have a longer length of stay, and the unit is active with patient mobility, education, and family interactions.
Qualified volunteers should have excellent communication skills and a strong interest in healthcare. They must be physically able to push or pull objects weighing over 25 pounds. The time commitment for volunteering on this unit is three hours per week, which can be completed as one three-hour shift or two 1.5-hour shifts.
Training
Training will be provided by staff and experienced volunteers. It includes a unit tour, a review of duties, and instruction on universal precautions, fire safety, and confidentiality policies.
Uniform
The dress code for this unit is a Volunteer Services polo or other white shirt, khaki pants, and closed-toe shoes. Shirts are available for purchase at Wild Rose Gifts (Main Entrance Lobby) Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Volunteers must follow the professional appearance policy, which includes wearing the volunteer badge at all times.
Hours Available
Shifts are available Monday-Friday between 8:00 AM and 10:00 PM.
Areas of Study Best Suited
Nursing, pre-medicine, and pre-physical therapy.
