Lauren Krukowski is a visual artist working in print, handmade paper, painting, textile, and sculptural processes. Her collaged prints explore color's ability to connect without language.
Over the last decade, her tactile abstractions have centered on processing what surrounds her and finding awe in small moments and material inquiry. Krukowski is drawn to color relationships that evoke deep emotional responses, like the musical frisson she experiences from vocal harmonies. Responses that are deeply felt, but difficult to describe with words. Through collage, she stretches objects and ideas from her immediate surroundings beyond the familiar and expected. Often without a straightforward logic. Moving fluidly through multiple artistic processes, the work often undergoes multiple iterations as they repeatedly, cut, sewn, and added to. Chance and improvisation are crucial collaborators, allowing for discovery and surprise in every step of making.
Lauren Krukowski has exhibited her work across the United States. Her research has been supported with awards and artist residencies including the Stanley Award for International Research Fellowship. Krukowski earned a BFA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and will graduate with an MFA from the University of Iowa in May 2024.
