Corrine Smith is a mixed media artist whose work is characterized by vivid colors, abstraction, geometry, and collage. Her artistic journey has naturally evolved through an exploration of the formal elements and principles of design in painting.
The evolution of Smith's work has been one of a natural progression through addition. She creates complex compositions with layers of acrylic paint, handmade paper, and mono-prints resulting in works rich in dimension, expression, texture, and pattern.
Each artwork begins with multiple overlapping drawings. Smith finds the evolution of her paintings thrilling, driven by the unknown journey of creation. Her greatest inspiration comes from her previous works, always seeking to achieve an aesthetic surprise.
Corrine Smith earned her BFA from Southern Illinois University and her MFA from the University of Kentucky. From 1996 until 2020, she served as the Program Director for Kaleidoscope, a children's art program at Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois.
