Glacial Tongues
Large pieces of glacial ice can sometimes appear a vibrant blue color, as if they were massive pieces of aquamarine or sapphire gemstones. The blue color occurs because the ice is compressed and there is no air, making it easier for light to travel through the ice producing a blue tint while sections of white ice occur when there are air bubbles present.
