"Hallie and her twin sister, Hattie, were born at 35 weeks via emergency C-section in Clinton, Iowa. Shortly after they were born, the girls were transported to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital. Due to a lack of oxygen at birth, Hallie had a stroke and also acute kidney injury.
Hallie spent 33 days in the NICU. During that time she was part of a cooling study to help recover from her brain injury. She was also on peritoneal dialysis for two weeks due to her kidneys not functioning from an acute kidney injury.
We are happy to report she is off all of her medications and her kidney function is normal!
At UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital, they give the highest quality care. The staff treated our girls and the rest of our family with compassion. We were always informed of what was going on with our girls’ care. We loved the scrapbook pages the NICU nurses made for the twins!"
