The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends transport of pediatric patients by a dedicated pediatric specialty care team, based on research that shows fewer complications and better survival rates in patients who receive bedside-quality care during transport.

Our pediatric critical care transport team includes the skilled medical personnel and the advanced equipment necessary to deliver personalized critical care. This means patients receive expert care faster, with continuity of care as they are transferred to a specialist.

A mobile pediatric intensive care unit

Our pediatric critical care transport team provides rapid stabilization and safe transport for critically ill patients. We deliver the expertise of an ICU—the advanced level of care you’d expect from Iowa’s only nationally ranked children’s hospital.

Our team specializes in transporting:

  • Patients who have a compromised airway or need a ventilator (both non-invasive and invasive mechanical ventilation).
  • Patients whose condition may deteriorate during transport, such as children with complex congenital heart disease.
  • Patients who need complex interventions during transport, including inhalational nitric oxide therapy.

We also provide return transport for patients who need it.
