Downtown Campus- Guest Lodging Volunteer
Unit Description
UI Health Care Downtown Guest Lodging provides overnight accommodations for loved ones of patients staying at the hospital, or for those traveling for an early appointment the following day. Volunteers will see guests from a wide variety of age groups and demographics. The main task of volunteers in this area is to greet and welcome guests, assist guests checking-in, checking-out. Other tasks include assisting guests with extra linens or towels, updating the online roster, and deliver positive customer service with questions or complaints. Volunteers in Guest Lodging should be able to work independently and possess strong interpersonal communication skills.
Training
All Guest Lodging volunteers will attend a volunteer orientation, where they will receive University of Iowa Health Care volunteering information and then receive training about Guest Lodging, which includes a tour of the area.
Uniform
The dress code for this unit is a Volunteer Services polo, khaki pants, and closed-toe shoes. Shirts are available for purchase at Wild Rose Gifts (University Campus, Main Entrance Lobby) Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Volunteers must follow the professional appearance policy, which includes wearing the volunteer badge at all times.
Hours Available
Two-hour shifts are available Monday-Friday from: 8-10 a.m., 10 a.m.-Noon, Noon-2 p.m., 2-4 p.m., or 4-6 p.m.
