“My desire was to become a parent. I talked to a few fertility clinics around Iowa, but I was ultimately referred to University of Iowa Health Care to work with their gestational carrier program.”
“After submitting the necessary paperwork, I received a call on Feb. 26, 2015 from Michelle Maifeld, one of the fertility nurses, who helped me get the process started. From that phone call forward, my experience at UI Health Care was wonderful.”
"I consistently spoke to Michelle. She answered my questions and supported me throughout the entire process. I also interacted with several members of the care team–I had an exam by a physician, worked with the embryologists, met the physician who did the embryo transfer, and spoke with a psychiatrist. I remember the psychiatrist mentioning that, as far as she knew, I was the first heterosexual single male to take this journey at UI Health Care.”
“After careful planning and consideration, I utilized UI Health Care’s approved independent agency to find an egg donor and surrogate.”
“The donor produced 29 eggs and 10 embryos were created. On August 22, 2016, one embryo was used to during the embryo transfer. In April 2017, my daughter Paige was born.”
