Instructional Services Specialist, Full-Time Instructor

Jon Dunham is an Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Instructor in the Emergency Medical Services Learning Resources Center (EMSLRC), part of the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics.

Jon joins the EMSLRC with nearly three decades of diverse EMS and public safety experience. He completed his initial EMT-A and EMT-P training at Mary Greeley Medical Center, eventually working for Mary Greeley Medical Center’s Mobile Intensive Care Services as a paramedic and EMS Instructor. He taught EMS classes at all levels and provided continuing education opportunities throughout the region.

The events of Sept. 11, 2001 propelled Jon to expand his public safety career into law enforcement and he served for eight years as a police officer for the Marshalltown Police Department. He also worked as an EMT-P for Marshalltown’s ambulance service and taught various EMS courses for the local community college.

Jon holds degrees in Liberal Arts from Des Moines Area Community College and in Criminal Justice with emphasis in Homeland Security from Purdue University. He is married to his college sweetheart, Cathy, and has two beautiful children, Tyler and Marissa.
