As a member of UI Sports Medicine’s comprehensive multidisciplinary team, Dr. Michael Berrebi supports clients across a broad range of sport and performance psychology needs. Dr. Berrebi specializes in assisting clients to master the mental game and achieve peak performance. His clientele includes those struggling with various performance issues such as decreased confidence, injury recovery, burnout, and performance-related anxiety. Dr. Berrebi believes anyone can benefit from sport psychology, stating “we are constantly performing in everyday life - with friends, in relationships, at work, with patients, in public, on the field/court, etc. Increasing the time one spends on the mental side of sport or activity, regardless of age or skill level, can result in increased achievement and enjoyment.” Dr. Berrebi works with UI Sports Medicine as part of a comprehensive team providing innovative approaches to holistic care.
Throughout his career, Dr. Berrebi has worked with a number of organizations to provide community counseling, sport and performance consulting, and executive leadership coaching. These experiences extended his areas of expertise and ability to help individuals and teams achieve their goals.
As part of his masters and doctoral work at West Virginia University, Dr. Berrebi researched how peer leadership and gender differences influence team cohesion. He also studied the impact of competitive anger and provocation in collegiate sport. Dr. Berrebi has conducted workshops and trainings in a variety of settings including sport, fine arts, and business/sales. He has also presented at numerous regional and national conferences.
Dr. Berrebi has a Ph.D. in Sport, Exercise & Performance Psychology and an M.A. in Counseling from West Virginia University. He is a licensed mental health counselor in the state of Iowa and also a member of the Association for Applied Sport Psychology and the American Counseling Association.
