A video EEG (vEEG) helps your care team learn more about how your child’s brain works. These books will help children, teens, and caregivers know what to expect before, during, and after their vEEG so they can feel prepared for the experience.

Both outpatient and inpatient vEEG tests record brain activity and video at the same time. The main differences are where the test takes place, how long it lasts, and how closely your child is monitored.

Inpatient Video EEG:

Your child will go to Stead Family Children’s Hospital for the test. They will stay in the hospital for a few days so the doctors can collect enough information.

Outpatient Video EEG (EEG Lab):

Your child will go to the EEG Lab at UI Health Care for the test. The test lasts a few hours, and they will go home the same day.

Outpatient Video EEG (Pediatric Specialty Clinic):

Your child will go to the Pediatric Specialty Clinic at UI Health Care for the test. The test lasts 6 to 8 hours and they will go home the same day.
