Search begins for next Stead Family Children’s Hospital chief administrative officer
Alexander Bassuk, MD, physician-in-chief, Stead Family Children's Hospital, and chair and departmental executive officer of the Department of Pediatrics, and Emily Blomberg, chief operating officer for UI Health Care, will serve as co-chairs of the search committee.
UI Health Care will begin a national search for the chief administrative officer position at University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital. This leadership position will oversee daily operations, strategic planning, and financial management of the children’s hospital and pediatric care initiatives.
Joining Bassuk and Blomberg on the committee will be:

- Sarah Haskell, DO, division director, Pediatric Critical Care
- James Jorris, Staff Council president & revenue cycle coordinator, Patient Financial Services
- Patrick McNamara, MB, division director, Neonatology
- Jacqueline Nelson, DNP, associate chief nursing officer, Children's & Women's Services
- Douglas Storm, MD, clinical professor, Department of Pediatrics and Urology
- Derek Zhorne, MD, associate chief medical officer, UI Stead Family Children's Hospital
- Kyle Anson, assistant vice president, Human Resources
The new chief administrative officer will succeed Pamela Johnson-Carlson, who departed the organization in January 2023. Melissa Whisler, MBA, MHA, was named interim chief administrative officer effective Jan. 12, 2023, and will remain in the position until a permanent replacement is hired.
