We first became involved with University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital 12 years ago when we learned our then-2-year-old son was born with scoliosis.
We had an amazing experience. Coming into the spinal fusion surgery we didn’t know what to expect. All we knew was our son was going to be in extreme pain after the surgery, and the recovery was going to be extensive and long. We were completely blown away with the team they have here! I have worked in the medical field for 15 years now and it truly takes the right people for the job! They took their time with us even explaining some questions more than once. They kept us so informed, honestly no parent could ask for more! Our nurse Kelly Noska, BSN, RN, was a lifesaver, she kept a smile on my son’s face when he clearly didn’t want to smile, she made our family feel very comfortable!
I wouldn’t go anywhere else, honestly. As a mom your children are your life, and I wouldn’t have put this in anyone else’s hands! They made us feel like our thoughts and opinions actually mattered, not just someone that will talk over you! I dreaded this surgery for months, I didn’t know what to expect, one thing I can for sure say “we came to the right place.”
