My favorite thing about my job is caring for children with digestive disorders and walking alongside their families on the journey to answers. Gastrointestinal symptoms—abdominal pain, feeding difficulties, poor growth—can be frightening and exhausting for families, and I feel honored and privileged to help them find relief and get back to simply being kids. I joined UI Health Care because it is a leading academic institution where I can practice state-of-the-art medicine while contributing to research that moves our field forward. Pediatric gastroenterology still has many unanswered questions, and what inspires me every day is the opportunity to discover better ways to diagnose and treat digestive, liver, and nutritional disorders in children, and to translate that new knowledge into the care we provide. University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital is special because everything—from patient safety to the design of the hospital itself—is dedicated to the health and comfort of children and families, and I am proud to be part of a team that provides compassionate, cutting-edge care.
