Aerodigestive and Tracheostomy Clinic
Ranked among the top otolaryngology programs nationally, our clinic provides comprehensive, coordinated evaluation and management of complex airway and swallowing disorders.
For children with a trach tube, our goal is to provide a pathway for decannulation—the removal of the tracheostomy tube.
Our approach
Our program is the only multidisciplinary clinic for complex airway and swallowing disorders. We take a team approach that includes experts from multiple specialties. We evaluate your child and create a treatment plan to provide the most advanced, most comprehensive care.
Instead of making multiple appointments to see each of these experts, you make a single appointment, and each member of the care team is there to visit with your child. This coordination means quicker care, quicker decisions, and a better experience for you and your child.
Multidisciplinary care is especially important for children with a trach tube. It improves communication and our ability to diagnose and manage your child’s condition.
Your child’s care team includes otolaryngologists, pulmonologists, gastroenterologists, speech-language pathologists, and respiratory therapists all specially trained to care for children.
Evaluation of your child
Our experts use triple endoscopies to evaluate the airway and gastrointestinal tract in the same session. This means your child is only placed under anesthesia once, which lowers the risks of complications. After the evaluation, our team of experts meet to develop a strategy for managing your child’s care.
