Post-COVID-19 Clinic

If you’ve recovered from COVID-19, it’s important to continue to watch your health closely. COVID-19 is a new and relatively unknown disease. The short- and long-term effects it can have on your body are still not clear.

The specialists at the University of Iowa Health Care Post-COVID-19 Clinic provide ongoing care for anyone who has recovered from COVID-19.

We’re Iowa’s only clinic dedicated to caring for people who have recovered from COVID-19.

Our team of doctors cooperate with other specialists at leading medical institutions around the world who are focused on caring for patients who have recovered from COVID-19. They share the latest information about how to identify symptoms of the effects of COVID-19 and the most up-to-date treatment plans.

Patients who receive care at our clinic may be eligible to participate in clinical trials of the latest treatments as they become available.

Make an appointment for your post-COVID-19 care

Anyone age 16 and older who has recovered from a lab-confirmed case of COVID-19 can make an appointment.

If you are still having symptoms, we encourage you to make your first appointment with us four weeks after being discharged from your COVID-19 care.

We also recommend a follow-up appointment six months after your first appointment. And you can make an appointment any time you feel you need care.

At your first appointment, we’ll conduct a thorough examination and assessment of your health to help spot the signs of complications related to COVID-19, including:

  • CT scan of the chest
  • Full pulmonary function test
  • Blood test
  • Assessment by a certified pulmonologist

The first appointment is comprehensive and generally lasts several hours.

Our clinic is a starting point to determine the effects of COVID-19 on each patient. If we discover any signs of illness, we’ll create a treatment plan for you, or we’ll refer you to the UI Health Care specialist who can provide the best care for your condition.

Patients may be referred for the following areas:

  • Further evaluation from specialists
  • Pulmonary rehabilitation and physical therapy
  • Mental health services, including:
    • Neuropsychology
    • Psychiatry
    • Counseling

To schedule your visit, call 1-319-384-8442 during normal business hours (Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.). Ask to be seen in the Post COVID-19 Clinic.
