Post-COVID-19 Clinic
Providers at University of Iowa Health Care Post-COVID-19 Clinic deliver ongoing care for anyone who has recovered from COVID-19. Our clinic sees patients who had COVID-19 and continue to be symptomatic for weeks and months after.
We’re Iowa’s only clinic dedicated to caring for people who recovered from COVID-19.
What to expect at your first appointment
Any adult who can send their positive COVID-19 test laboratory documentation or has an antibody test showing a COVID-19 infection prior to scheduling can be seen in the clinic.
Patients who continue to experience symptoms 4-6 weeks after having COVID-19 must be evaluated in person.
At your first appointment, we’ll conduct a thorough physical examination and health history assessment to help spot the signs of complications related to COVID-19.
If you have respiratory symptoms, you may also have the following tests ordered:
- CT scan of the chest
- Full pulmonary function test
The first appointment is comprehensive and generally lasts several hours.
Our clinic is a starting point to determine the effects of COVID-19 on each patient. If we discover any signs of illness, we’ll create a treatment plan for you, or we’ll refer you to a specialist who can provide the best care for your condition.
We also recommend a follow-up appointment after your first appointment. You will work with a provider to make a decision that is best for your health. You can make an additional appointment any time you feel you need care.
When you return for your follow-up appointment, you may be seen by any provider on our Post-COVID-19 Clinic team.
Referrals to specialists
After your initial appointment, you may be referred to a UI Health Care specialist or a provider in your local community.
