Anesthesia Fasting Guidelines

Are you having a procedure with anesthesia? You have restrictions you must follow on what you can and cannot eat and drink. Your stomach must be empty for your procedure and anesthesia. We do not want contents (food or liquids) from your stomach to get into your lungs. We want to help keep you safe. Your procedure will be delayed or cancelled if you do not follow those restrictions. Call your care team if you have any questions about eating and drinking before your procedure.

For Patients

  • Eating and Drinking Before Your Procedure - Children (less than 19 years old)
  • Eating and Drinking Before Your Procedure - Adults (19 years and older)
  • Eating and Drinking Before Your Procedure - For patients taking a GLP - 1 agonist medicine
