Heather Parrish's artwork explores themes of perception and belonging through printmaking, photography, and video projections. She examines how light transforms rigid spaces into airy, dynamic environments, reconnecting us to ourselves, loved ones, and the broader community. Using translucent materials like veils, layers, and screens, Parrish investigates what it means to live in a body and how it connects to the world. She highlights how boundaries - between self and other, inside and outside - are fluid and intertwined, constantly evolving in a reciprocal dance.
Heather Parrish holds an MFA in Printmaking from the University of Notre Dame and a BA in Kinesiology from the University of Texas. With family roots in Austin, Texas, and a childhood in Indonesia, her experiences deeply inform her creative and research pursuits. Collaboration is a vital aspect of her practice, encompassing projects with scientists, filmmakers, poets, activists, bodies of water, microbes, and bees. Parrish is currently the Assistant Professor of Printmaking at the University of Iowa.
