When my son was 4 months old I noticed a small lump on back of his head, which we monitored. When he turned 7 months, I noticed another one on the front of his head, so our pediatrician referred us to University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital for consultations. After visits with dermatology, an ENT in otolaryngology, and finally a neurosurgeon, it was decided my son would need surgery to remove these two spots. That is where our journey began.
We saw Jennifer Powers, MD, from dermatology, Jose Manaligod, MD, from ENT, and finally Arnold Menezes, MD, from neurosurgery. He was the one to operate on my son. Everyone from the clinic nurses, check-in staff, and receptionist, were simply wonderful.
I really would like to thank the pre-op and post-op staff from the operating room and on the 9th floor who cared for my son during such a scary time. They were truly amazing and I can’t thank them enough for being top-notch. Dr. Menezes and his nurse practitioner Trang Duong were wonderful and answered all of our questions.
Our three nurses we personally had on the 9th floor during our stay (Katrina B., Brooke M., and Anna J.) were amazing. These three, along with all the other nurses, were so welcoming, attentive, and caring. They are wonderful pediatric nurses and I can’t thank them enough.
We had been going to appointments for a few months and my son’s surgery entailed a lot more than I thought it would. Everyone at UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital was amazing! We can’t thank the staff, doctors, and everyone involved enough for all they did. I never felt left out of a plan, they always kept us in the loop, and answered every last question we had. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for taking the best care of our little boy.
