What I find intriguing about my job is the act of investigating, in a dynamic and diverse setting like the University of Iowa, the many medical and psychosocial variables that cause a child or adolescent to struggle with his or her development, behavior, and adaptation in life. What I find fascinating about my job is the act of coordinating management, alongside with other health-care specialists, for the promotion of child and adolescent development, inclusion, and overall happiness, and aiming to maximize both their functionalities and potentialities as human beings. What I find rewarding about my job is the act of sharing with children, adolescents, and their families my perception on how incredibly well they are overcoming their ultimate life obstacles. Investigating, coordinating, managing, and sharing—the ingredients of a powerful recipe that can make a difference for people with special health care needs when we enjoy taking care of them.
