Multidisciplinary Pediatric Headache Clinic
The multidisciplinary pediatric headache clinic at University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital is the first of its kind in Iowa. We care for pediatric patients whose headaches have not already responded to treatment.
Children who may benefit from our clinic are those who:
- Have already seen a pediatric neurologist for frequent, daily, or near-daily, headaches
- Are frequently missing school or other activities because of headaches
- Have ongoing concerns about back or neck pain, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, or unhealthy weight
Team approach
We bring together a team of pediatric specialists to create one personalized treatment plan for your child. This approach streamlines headache care to one place where your child can be seen by a pediatric neurology medical provider, a dietitian, a pharmacist, a physical therapist, and a psychologist. Rather than communicating with each specialist separately, you communicate with one coordinated team of providers.
New patients
New patients to the clinic come for a four-hour first visit with all members of the team on one day in one location. This allows the team to discuss the best treatment plan for your child’s complex headaches before return visits are scheduled.

Support Groups
The Huntington's Disease Support Group provides an opportunity for individuals at risk for, affected by, or caregivers of Huntington’s disease (HD). The facilitators strive to create an environment that encourages sharing, learning, and bonding with others impacted by HD.
Occasionally, outside speakers are invited to discuss topics such as nutrition, physical therapy, long-term care planning, financial planning, and much more. We encourage anyone impacted by HD to attend.
These support groups are held 100% online using the Zoom video conferencing platform. A link to participate will be emailed to you prior to the group meeting.
If you are not familiar with how to utilize the Zoom video conference platform, a brief (10 min.) YouTube video explaining the process can be accessed by using the hyperlink below.
If you are interested in participating, please email [email protected].
