Downtown Campus- Telemetry Inpatient Unit Volunteer
Unit Description
UI Health Care Medical Center Downtown offers the Telemetry unit for volunteers to assist the health care team in its care for cardiac patients. Volunteers ensure unit efficiency through a wide range of duties from conversing with patients, assisting nursing staff, clerical tasks, and re-stocking. Due to the high amount of patient interaction and independent work expected from the position, volunteers must be self-motivated, outgoing, and compassionate.
Training
All prospective Adult Acute Care Inpatient Unit Downtown Campus volunteers will attend group orientation where they will receive general University of Iowa Health Care information. Volunteers will then receive unit-specific information and training as well as a tour of the area.
Uniform
The dress code for this unit is a Volunteer Services polo, khaki pants, and closed-toe shoes. Shirts are available for purchase at Wild Rose Gifts (University Campus, Main Entrance Lobby) Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Volunteers must follow the professional appearance policy, which includes wearing the volunteer badge at all times.
Hours Available
Shifts are available Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Volunteers will be expected to spend at least three hours per week on the unit.
Areas of Study Best Suited
This unit is well suited, but not limited to, anyone majoring in any pre-health sciences field. However, any volunteer who is reliable, outgoing, and able to work independently is welcome!
