12 patient care units, clinics recognized for teamwork
Survey of patients helps enable patient-centered care at UI Health Care
Every year, the Office of the Patient Experience (OPE) highlights 12 units and clinics that excel in patient experience and teamwork, based on patient feedback from a nationwide survey. This data-driven approach identifies UI Health Care teams that patients commend for having the "best teamwork."
“We are all so incredibly proud of the 12 team award winners this year," says Kipton Pedersen, interim director of OPE. "Celebrating great teamwork is important to our organization because every one of us plays such a critical role in the overall patient experience. It’s important that we all continue to build upon our culture by ensuring that we set each other up for success and speaking positively about one another in all settings.”
The Office of the Patient Experience recognizes teams across three categories including Outstanding Patient Experience Team Award, Exceptional Patient Experience Team Award, and Journey to Success Team Award. Percentile rankings are based on patient experience surveys conducted by Press Ganey—a health care survey vendor—across other national facilities for patient visits during fiscal year 2024.
“In health care, teamwork is essential in providing the highest level of safe patient-centered care,” notes Pedersen. “It brought us great joy celebrating each of this year's winners and hearing from the staff working in the unit and department. It’s excellent teamwork that helps our patients feel a part of our team and ensures they are in the best place to receive their care. Together, we can accomplish anything we set our minds to at UI Health Care.”

Outstanding Patient Experience Team Award
The Outstanding Patient Experience Team Award is awarded to teams who had the highest rank on the survey question inquiring if “staff worked well to care for you.” Three teams were recognized with the Outstanding Patient Experience Team Award.
Exceptional Patient Experience Team Award
The Exceptional Patient Experience Team Award is awarded to teams who had the second and third highest rank on the survey question inquiring if “staff worked well to care for you.” Six teams were recognized with the Exceptional Patient Experience Team Award.
Journey to Success Team Award
The Journey to Success Team Award is awarded to teams who saw the greatest increase in their rank from the previous fiscal year on the survey question inquiring if “staff worked well to care for you.” Three teams were recognized with the Journey to Success Team Award.
