Balancing Family, Career and a Dream of Becoming a Nurse-Midwife

For more than a decade, I've had the privilege of caring for women and families as a labor and delivery nurse. Today, I serve as a Maternal Child Services Charge Nurse in Ames, Iowa, and I'm currently in my second year of the Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM) education program at UI Health Care.
Outside of nursing and school, life is busy. My husband and I own and operate a gym in our hometown, and together we're raising three active children who keep our schedules full of sports, gymnastics, and family activities. Despite the demands of work, family, and business ownership, I remain committed to pursuing my dream of becoming a certified nurse midwife.
The journey has required significant dedication, including commuting two hours each way to Iowa City multiple times each week, balancing coursework and clinical experiences, and making sacrifices as a family. While challenging, every lesson, clinical opportunity, and connection I've made throughout the program has reinforced that I am exactly where I'm meant to be.
UI Health Care’s certified nurse-midwifery program has provided me with exceptional education, mentorship, and hands-on learning experiences that are helping me grow both professionally and personally. I look forward to combining my years of labor and delivery experience with advanced midwifery training to provide compassionate, evidence-based care to women and families throughout pregnancy, birth, and beyond.
