Iowans receive more convenient care at new Northgate family medicine clinic
UI Health Care’s Northgate facility welcomes patients as the new home for the Department of Family and Community Medicine
Whether seeking care for pregnancy, chronic health issues, or managing something routine like the common cold, patients now have even more convenient care options in Iowa City.
University of Iowa Health Care began welcoming patients on Tuesday, Dec. 16, to its newest facility at 2751 Northgate Drive on the east side of Iowa City, just minutes north of Interstate 80. The Northgate Drive facility serves as the new home for UI Health Care’s Department of Family and Community Medicine.
The 33,000-square-foot facility houses a large primary care clinic with 41 clinical exam rooms, lab and research space, administrative offices, and the Family Medicine Residency Program. The clinic is open for patient care Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
“We know Iowans want convenient care from our health system, and we’re excited to provide that here. Easy parking, an in-house lab, and access to the interstate help us meet the care needs of our patients while also focusing on quality,” says Jeffrey Quinlan, MD, FAAFP, chair and department executive officer of Family and Community Medicine. “This facility has so much potential not only for our patients but for our resident physicians in training as well. This move is the perfect ending to what was a significant year for family medicine in the greater Iowa City community.”
Commitment to primary care
Earlier this year, family medicine resident physicians returned to the health system’s downtown campus for the first time in 25 years after UI Health Care assumed operations at the hospital in early 2024. UI Health Care continues to reinvigorate the community-based hospital while maintaining its “spirit of hospitality.”
"These efforts show our commitment to providing state-of-the-art primary care for the citizens of Iowa while training the next generation of family physicians to meet that need. By growing our teaching clinic from 27 to 41 exam rooms, we are expanding our capacity to not only care for patients but better educate more learners. We hope this leads to more physicians staying in Iowa to support our growing health care needs."
The Department of Family and Community Medicine will retain some presence on the university campus within the Pomerantz Family Pavilion. Patients can confirm the location of their appointment by using MyChart.
