Petar Lenert, MD, is a Clinical Professor of medicine. He finished his medical training at the University of Novi Sad, Yugoslavia in 1979 as the best graduate in the class. He then obtained a Master of Science in Immunology in 1981, completed combined residency/fellowship in internal medicine/clinical immunology in 1986 and obtained PhD in immunology in 1991. After practicing medicine in his former country, Yugoslavia, and running an immunoregulatory research lab in Montreal, Canada he joined the faculty at University of Iowa in 2000. His clinical focus is in autoimmune diseases especially SLE and systemic sclerosis. He is principal investigator in several clinical trials especially those studying new treatments for giant cell arteritis, polymyalgia rheumatica, and SLE. He serves as a member of DMSB oversight committee of the NIAMS in Bethesda, Maryland. He also serves as a Director of Annual Iowa Rheumatology Symposium. He has published 63 peer-reviewed publications and several book chapters.
