What is a fun fact about yourself?
On top of having many grandchildren, I also have 13 great grandchildren and still babysit!
What made you want to volunteer at UI Health Care?
I needed to find something to do after retirement and my husband wouldn’t let me find a paid position – so volunteering it was!
What do you enjoy most about volunteering?
I love interacting with all the patients, visitors, families, and staff who come into the Wild Rose Gift Shop!
What would you say to someone who’s thinking of volunteering?
Go for it
What is a fun fact about yourself?
I currently play bass trombone, trombone, and euphonium in more than ten musical groups, some of which have and will play at the hospital.
What made you want to volunteer at UI Health Care?
I spent 41 years working in healthcare as a hospital administrator, medical equipment sales, sales leadership and as a CEO for medical device companies so I fully appreciate the challenges of providing world-class patient care in a hospital setting. The value and importance of volunteering in this setting is immeasurable and a way for me to give back to the healthcare community that has given me so much.
What do you enjoy most about volunteering?
As a Guest Services Lobby volunteer, I love being able to welcome our patients as they come in the door, help them navigate the check-in process and provide transportation assistance as needed to reach their destination.
What would you say to someone who’s thinking of volunteering?
University of Iowa Health Care is very large and sometimes an intimidating place for our patients. The intrinsic rewards you receive by providing help and care to those patients is worth every minute you will spend as a volunteer. There are so many diverse opportunities throughout the volunteer organization that you will undoubtedly find a role that fits your desires and provides service to our
