Posterior Spinal Fusion Day 3: After Surgery

Patient Education

Tests

Blood tests in the morning.
X-rays of you standing up before you go home.

Nursing care

Do your cough and deep breathing.
Use your incentive spirometer.
Do your leg and ankle exercises.

Eating and Drinking

Eat and drink as normal.

Medicines

You will take liquid or pill pain medicines.
If you have low red blood cells, you may need a blood transfusion.
You will take iron pills.

Activity

You will work on stairs and getting in and out of bed with Physical Therapy.
A Child Life Specialist will meet with you.

Tubes and bandages

You will have a bandage on your back.
