UI Health Care brings multidisciplinary spina bifida care to Urbandale
UI Health Care is expanding access to specialized pediatric care with a multidisciplinary outreach clinic in Urbandale, offering coordinated services for children with spina bifida closer to home.
Beginning this month, the outreach clinic will bring together experts in pediatric neurosurgery, orthopedics, and urology—providing families in central and western Iowa with a more convenient, coordinated care experience.
Led by pediatric neurosurgeon Rebecca Reynolds, MD, the clinic will also provide care for a range of pediatric neurosurgical conditions. For patients with spina bifida, collaboration between neurosurgery, orthopedics, and urology will support more streamlined, team-based care in this location.
“This new clinic allows us to bring highly specialized, team-based care into this community,” says Reynolds. “Families who previously needed to travel to Iowa City for coordinated visits will now have an option closer to home.”
While the Urbandale location already serves as a hub for numerous adult and pediatric specialty services, this outreach clinic reflects a continued expansion of multidisciplinary pediatric care in the region.
The clinic will be offered periodically throughout the year, with initial dates scheduled for April, August, and December 2026.
Spina bifida care is a primary focus; however, the pediatric neurosurgery outreach clinic will also offer general pediatric neurosurgery appointments, helping expand access for patients across the region.
