Amy O’Deen serves as the inaugural chief administrative officer for UI Health Care’s North Liberty Campus, which opened in April 2025. She was instrumental in the planning, design, and construction of this free-standing orthopedic hospital, working closely with UI Design and Construction, UI Health Care Capital Management, multiple user groups and contractors, and community stakeholders.
O’Deen joined the hospital administration in 1983, after earning a Master of Arts degree in hospital administration and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree, both from the University of Iowa, while competing as a member of the Iowa volleyball team. She was awarded Fellow status in the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) in 2007 and received the Iowa ACHE Regent Award for leadership in 2025. She also was recognized as one of six UI recipients of the Iowa Board of Regents Staff Excellence Award for 2026.
Her current responsibilities include executive leadership over the operation of the UI Health Care North Liberty campus as well as serving as the primary administrative liaison to the UI Health Network Rehabilitation Hospital in Coralville, lowa. Previously, she provided executive oversight for the UI Health Care Stead Family Children’s Hospital, served as interim chief operating officer for the UI Health Care’s clinical enterprise, and maintained senior leadership responsibilities for numerous clinical, ancillary, and support departments.
O’Deen has also devoted considerable time to a host of UI and community organizations, including serving as chair of the board of the UI Alumni Association, vice chair of the board of IWLC (Women Lead Change), and vice chair of the UI Presidential Committee on Athletics. She has served on the boards of the Iowa Women’s Foundation, Ronald McDonald House, Iowa City Area Chamber of Commerce, UI Alumni Association, and Hawkeye Area Council—Boy Scouts of America. She also has served with the Johnson County United Way, the Go Red for Women steering committee, Iowa City Noon Rotary, and the Carver-Hawkeye Arena Enhancement Campaign. She was selected by the Corridor Business Journal as a “Woman of Influence” in 2013.
