Program Accreditation and Statistics for the Nurse-Midwifery Education Program
Accreditation
Graduates of this certificate program are eligible to sit for the national certification exam of the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB) and receive the designation of certified nurse midwife (CNM) upon successful completion of the certificate, in combination with a Master’s or Post doctorate degree.
The CNM designation and the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics Nurse-Midwifery Education Program curriculum are recognized by all states for licensure, by the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) for prescriptive authority, and by all states that enable advanced practice nurses to prescribe.
The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Nurse-Midwifery Education Program is affiliated with the University of Iowa’s Carver College of Medicine (CCOM). The University of Iowa is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission with the last reaffirmation site visit completed in 2019. This accreditation stands until 2029. Executive Summary (uiowa.edu)
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology residency program is accredited by the ACGME Residency Review Committee in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
