My infectious diseases practice is focused primarily in the outpatient clinic where I treat patients for a broad range of infections. I do research on infections related to health care and ways to prevent these infections. Some of my recent studies have identified risk factors for surgical wound infections and interventions to prevent these infections. In addition, I am interested in patient-clinician communication and patient’s stories. My book, Patient Listening: A Doctor’s Guide, grew out of a sabbatical during which I explored patients’ stories.
