If you’re one of the nearly 7 million Americans who deals with chronic or non-healing wounds, you know how difficult it can be to keep up with everyday activities while managing your condition, especially without a proper treatment plan.
At University of Iowa Health Care, our wound care specialists provide comprehensive, personalized care for your chronic or non-healing wounds, including advanced treatment options to help improve your quality of life. They also provide ostomy care, support, and education to both outpatients and inpatients in need of such services.
The only wound care center of its kind in Johnson County
The Wound Center at our downtown campus is nationally recognized and awarded for its commitment to excellence and exceptional patient care. It is part of the Healogics network of more than 600 Wound Care Centers® and is the only one of its kind in Johnson County.
Advanced treatments for chronic and non-healing wounds
Our wound care specialists complete advanced training to diagnose and treat the underlying causes of chronic and non-healing wounds. This training allows them to provide the latest evidence-based treatments available.
This includes hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT), an advanced treatment option that can be used in addition to other therapies to help decrease the risk of amputation. During HBOT, a patient breathes 100% oxygen in a pressurized chamber, causing the oxygen to diffuse into the blood plasma. The pressurized environment helps to reduce swelling and discomfort while providing the body with at least 10 times its normal supply of oxygen to help repair damaged tissues.
Multidisciplinary approach to wound care
Our wound care specialists collaborate with experts in other areas such as orthopedic surgery, infectious diseases, podiatry, endocrinology, and nutrition to design a personalized treatment plan that addresses your symptoms and the underlying cause of your wounds. You will be assigned a case manager who will help manage your care throughout your treatment period.
