About James V. Nepola
James Nepola, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in treating patients with all shoulder pain, injuries, and conditions. He treats shoulder conditions, including shoulder arthroplasty, shoulder arthritis, rotator cuff arthropathy, complex shoulder pathology and failed surgery. He is an expert at treating these conditions through arthroscopy, arthroscopic and open techniques for tendon repair and reconstruction, shoulder stabilization arthroplasty, and arthrodesis.
He is the founder and director of the bone healing research laboratory at the University of Iowa and has been working on the development of new techniques in shoulder arthroplasty and reconstruction, such as custom3-D printed implants for shoulder replacement.
Nepola received his Bachelor of Science from Yale University, followed by his medical degree from Columbia University, College of Physicians and Surgeons, New York, before completing his residency for surgery at Roosevelt Hospital, New York, and his residency for orthopedic surgery at the New York Orthopedic Hospital of New York Presbyterian Medical Center. He completed a fellowship in orthopedic trauma at New York Presbyterian Medical Center.
