Why University of Iowa Health Care

My first rotation during my fourth year of pharmacy school was an administrative rotation at University of Iowa Health Care. This rotation confirmed my desire to pursue a HSPAL residency. Throughout the remainder of my rotations, I was able to build amazing connections with many pharmacists at UI Health Care which further solidified my desire to complete residency here. Every person I have interacted with at UI Health Care has made me feel welcome and helped foster my learning. The HSPAL program at UI Health Care has a strong reputation of producing exceptional pharmacy leaders. The opportunity to complete a Master of Health Administration was another huge benefit of this program.

Favorite thing to do in Iowa City so far:

Why University of Iowa Health Care

I chose UI Health Care because of the multiple opportunities to make me a well-developed and experienced pharmacist ranging from the teaching certificate, many unique clinical experiences being an academic medical center, and ability to earn my master’s at the end of residency. I knew right from my interview (from how nice everyone was) that this was where I wanted to complete my residency.

Favorite thing to do in Iowa City so far:

Go on long walks with my dog Reuben, try new restaurants and coffee shops, and visit new bookstores and shops.

Why University of Iowa Health Care

As a large academic medical center, University of Iowa Health Care was able to afford me the wide variety of experiences I hoped to gain over the course of my residency training. Furthermore, the UIHC HSPAL residency program was the only one I found that offered the opportunity to pursue a Master of Science in Health Informatics concurrently. Technology and automation are among the areas of pharmacy practice I find most interesting, so this Master's degree option uniquely supports my goals for the residency program. Finally, the people here are all incredibly supportive and insightful, offering opportunities to grow through challenges while avoiding feeling overwhelmed
